Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has made an impassioned plea to the club’s fans amidst calls for the sacking of head coach Arthur Zwane.
The Amakhosi captain asked for patience from the club’s fans following Zwane’s incident in Polokwane over the weekend.
This comes after the Soweto giants succumbed to a 3-2 defeat to Golden Arrows in a DStv Premiership clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The disappointing performance put more pressure on coach Zwane and led to the ‘boo boys’ chanting “Zwane must go” after the game.
The 49-year-old Chiefs mentor had to be escorted by security personnel and Police to the tunnel for his safety.
Khune, who is the longest-serving player at the Glamour Boys, pleaded with Chiefs supporters to be patient with the coach and players.
He went on to state that he understand their frustrations. He promised the side’s fans that they will do everything in their power to turn their misfortunes around.

“What I can say to our fans is, we have been asking for patience, but again, they need to understand there have been different coaches in the past seasons,” the Chiefs goal-minder told the media.
“Most of the time, it is what they recommended to management.
“The club has delivered certain coaches and players that the supporters recommended.”
Khune continued: “So, everyone who has come in needs time to settle. We understand Kaizer Chiefs is not the club to wait.
“You have to play every match to win and challenge for the title honours.”
The 35-year-old goalie further explained that when you have players who are new in the club, it is their responsibility as leaders and players who have been there to guide them.
“It’s never easy, and it won’t take just one game to turn things around. It will take quite some time,” he added.
KHUNE SAYS EUROPEAN CLUBS HAVE MORE PATIENT WITH COACHES
The former Bafana Bafana shot-stopper reckons that South African football fanatics should learn from European clubs. He claims that they have more patience with their coaches.
“If you look at European clubs, they are patient with coaches and players. They know the team is building,” Khune stated.
“We haven’t been winning silverware. But the squad we have now, compared to the previous squad, I think is ready to compete.
“If we can be given more time, come next season, we should be able to win everything on offer.”
