Kizito: Power gave Zesco best test before Royal AM game

Zesco United midfielder Keziron Kizito says Sunday’s home draw against Power Dynamos was the best sendoff before visiting Royal AM this weekend in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Zambian club enters this season’s CAF Confederation Cup in the second stage after enjoying a preliminary round bye with a first-leg trip to South Africa.

Zesco warmed up for Sunday’s visit to Durban to face Royal AM with a tightly contested 0-0 Copperbelt derby home draw against Power at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

STYLE OF PLAY

But Kizito insists the draw is not a setback despite Zesco heading into their debut meeting against Royal AM at Moses Mabhida Stadium on October 9.

“This game has helped us because Royal AM’s style of play is more like that of Power Dynamos. They always want to keep the ball, and it is a good test for us,” Kizito said.

But the Copperbelt derby draw saw Zesco record their second straight scoreless draw after posting the same score line before the international breakaway at Green Eagles.

The consolation for Zesco coach Mumamba Numba is that his team is now unbeaten in their last four league games.

PROGRESS

Zesco is 6th on the FAZ Super League log with 9 points from six matches played.

“Of course, another challenging encounter playing Royal AM, but I think from the progress that we have seen in the team, we have a team that can give us the win in Durban,” Numba said.

“All we need is to plan well and fight hard and come back with the win.”

Meanwhile, Zesco will host Royal AM in the final leg on October 15 at Levy Stadium.

Pressure is on Zesco, who are now Zambia’s sole representative in Africa this season after Red Arrows were knocked out of the CAF Champions League in September by Primeiro de Agosto of Angola.
