Lazarous Kambole scores fourth goal in three games
Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Lazarous Kambole struck again on Saturday to score his fourth successive goal in three games since returning home to the Zambia Super League.
Kambole scored Zesco United’s lone goal in their 1-1 away Copperbelt derby draw against Zambian league leaders Power Dynamos at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
The 29-year-old spent three uneventful years at Chiefs where he managed just two goals.
But Kambole is faring quite well back home where he is on a six-month loan deal from Tanzanian side Young Africans that the Chipolopolo striker completed in the January 2023 window.
Kambole scored the games’ opening goal in the 36th minute with a cheeky back-heel while lurking on the far post after he benefitted from a downward header delivered by midfielder Collins Sikombe.
The goal came 10 minutes after Kambole’s venomous left-footed shot from a similar position was parried by Power goalkeeper Lawrence Mulenga that came off a Kelvin Mubanga corner.
That attempt was one of three that could have seen Kambole take home the ball.
His third attempt did find the back of Power’s net in the 63rd minute but his header was ruled out for offside.
Sadly, Zesco was denied an opportunity to collect back-to-back wins on their current six-match unbeaten run when striker Andy Boyeli beat ex-Baroka FC goalkeeper Cyril Chibwe who had a fairly quiet game up to that point.
Kambole has now completed a productive 270 minutes with four goals for 10th placed Zesco who are eleven points behind Power with 11 games left to play.
If Kambole continues with this form, he may just surpass fellow refugee from the PSL Justin Shonga who has 5 goals since rejoining Nkwazi in September.
However, it has been a quiet last seven games for Shonga who last scored on December 3 for second from bottom Nkwazi in a 3-0 home win over fellow strugglers Lumwana Radiants.
