Lazarous Kambole scores on Zesco United debut
Former Kaizer Chiefs forward Lazarous Kambole was on target in his debut appearance for Zambia’s Zesco United on Saturday.
The Zambian giants drew 1-1 with relegation-threatened Lumwana Radiants at the Lumwana Stadium in Solwezi.
Kambole returned to Zesco earlier this month on loan from Tanzania’s Young Africans, where he hardly got a chance to showcase his talent.
WHAT LAZAROUS KAMBOLE SAID ABOUT ZESCO UNITED RETURN
Kambole says there is no place like home following his return to nine-time Zambian champions Zesco United.
The 29-year-old returned to the Zambian league for the first time since 2019 when he left Zesco to join Chiefs on what would be an unsuccessful three-year stay at Amakhosi.
Kambole left Chiefs in 2022 and joined Tanzania champions Young Africans on a two-year deal but was not registered to play in the domestic league.
He has now returned to his former club, where he helped two back-to-back league titles in the 2018 and 2019 seasons on a six-month loan contract.
ROLLING UP HIS SLEEVES
Kambole said he was ready to roll up his sleeves and make an impact during his half-a-season stay at Zesco.
“It means a lot (to be back). They say there is no place like home. Yes, I went to South Africa, and the feeling was different. I went to Tanzania, and it was a different feeling, but coming back to Zesco is an awesome feeling that I can’t even explain because Zesco is like home to me,” Kambole said.
“I have been welcomed back in a very lovely way, so I am happy and excited.”
Kambole has joined last season’s runners-up, who are in unfamiliar territory on the league table at number 10 with 26 points, twelve points behind leaders Power Dynamos with fourteen fixtures to go.
