Ledwaba on Magesi building momentum following slow start

Magesi FC mentor Jackie Ledwaba reckons that is only a matter of time before his side gel well and get consistent results in the Motsepe Foundation Championship following their slow start to the new season.

The second-tier league newcomers find themselves four points adrift of log leaders AmaTuks, having collected seven points in five games.

Magesi cruised their way back to the South African football second-tier after finishing as the runner-up at the 2022 ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs, five years after their relegation from the National First Division.

LEDWABA NOT PANICKING

When asked about the inconsistency of getting positive results, Ledwaba said: “No, it’s not bad. These boys are still learning and they are still coming.”

“I think they will get there. It’s just a matter of time before we start seeing consistency from our boys.

“The fifth game we started well. You know, we lost two games, won two and drew one. We will get there.”

A shocking 6-0 defeat to JDR Stars a fortnight ago had raised eyebrows from many people which saw the head coach criticised.

However, Ledwaba attributed the 6-0 drubbing as a baptism [welcoming them back to the league] and stated that they spoke with players about that.

“We told them that this is football they will baptise you and just as they baptised us that day,” he told journalists in Polokwane.

“We have accepted the loss and said to ourselves let’s just soldier on, it’s part of football and we need to go back to the drawing board and prepare for the next game.”

The ex-AmaZulu FC attacker insists that his side is not yet facing catastrophe, as the club looks to climb up the table.

The Limpopo club will play their next league game against Uthongathi FC away from home on Sunday, 9 October.

Kick-off is scheduled for 15:30 in the afternoon.
