Orlando Pirates captain Innocent Maela has pleaded with his teammates to work collectively to solve goal-scoring challenges.
Pirates have been wasteful in front of goals which saw them fail to score more than one goal per match in their opening seven DStv Premiership fixtures.
The Soweto giants’ attackers have seemingly struggled to hit the back of the net, and the 30-year-old defender has called on his teammates to share the goal-scoring responsibility.
“Difficult match, you know, I’m sure we didn’t deserve to lose, especially in this manner, but we take the lessons and go back home to the drawing board.
“We showed our character. We showed that we wanted to equalise, but it wasn’t meant to be at the of the day.
“I think as players, we need to be accountable. We also need to be more responsible in ensuring we finish our chances, not only our forwards but everyone throughout the team.
“Even defenders are getting chances, but we’ll rectify it, grow into it, and the goals will come. It’s just disappointing to lose in this manner,” the former Thanda Royal Zulu captain told the media.
The Buccaneers suffered their second loss of the season against Maritzburg United. The Team of Choice was controversially awarded a penalty when the Nigerian international Olisa Ndah was harshly judged to have fouled Siboniso Conco in the box.
The French forward Amadou Soukouna converted the penalty to make sure John Maduka-coached team walked away with all three points.
