Malawian star Chawinga scores brace for Inter Milan in 6-goal thriller

Malawian star Tabitha Chawinga scored a brace for Inter Milan as they drew three-all with Juventus in a Serie A Women’s Premier League six-goal thriller on Sunday afternoon.

The Malawian put Inter ahead barely a minute into the second-half before doubling the advantage in the 61st minute at Juventus Training Centre.

Chawinga’s goals erased the hosts Juventus early first-half lead they had realized through goals from Sofia Cantore in the 13th minute and Lineth Beerensteyn in the 35th minute.

Juventus thought the game was safe in the bag only for the Malawian to respond and pull Inter level.

In fact, Juventus thought they had grabbed the maximum points when Cristina Girelli scored on the stroke of full-time.

However, Inter Milan had other ideas as they replied once again this time around through Ghoutia Karchouni three minutes into added time.

It was a bad ending to the game for the hosts Juventus who had influential player Linda Sebrant red carded with seven minutes remaining on the clock.

The result leaves Inter Milan on fourth place with four points from four games at par with the third-positioned Juventus.

Roma are the early pacesetters on six points from two games of the new season.

Overall, Chawinga has scored three goals in two games since her dream one-year loan switch from Chinese Women’s Super League side Wuhan Jiangdu.

Two weeks ago, Chawinga flew to South Africa to help Malawi reach the decisive semifinal qualification stage of the Cosafa Women’s Championship in Port Elizabeth.

She scored a hat-trick in the 6-0 win over Comoros before she flew back to Italy on Tuesday last week. In her absence, Malawi lost 3-1 to Tanzania to crash out of the semifinal race.

In Italy, the 26-year-old scored once on her debut two weeks ago when Inter Milan beat Parma 4-1 in the season’s opener.
