Mammila makes bold promise to Chippa boss Mpengesi

Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila has made a bold promise to hard-to-please club chairman Siviwe Mpengesi.

Mammila has promised Mpengesi a top-eight finish in this DStv Premiership campaign.

“Thank you for trusting me with your team. Thank you for having faith in me. I am going to try my level best to keep this team in the top-eight bracket because of what you have done to me,” he said.

CELEBRATING CAF C LICENCE COMPLETION

The administrator-turned-coach said this to celebrate his successful completion of the CAF C Licence.

He attributed the successful completion of the course to Mpengesi’s support.

“I want to thank you, Mr chairman Siviwe Mpengesi, my brother and my friend. Thank you for sharpening my life,” Mammila said in a video sent via the club’s social media platforms.

“I am now having the CAF C Licence because of you. You have paid for everything. I salute you, my chairman, and thanks to you and your family,” he added.

In reaction, Mpengesi said: “The club would like to congratulate Mr Morgan Mammila for being awarded his CAF C License. We wish him well.”

Mammila took advantage of the 2022 Qatar Fifa World Cup break to upgrade his coaching badges.

He ventured into the coaching role months ago despite possessing a lowly SAFA D Licence.

SURPRISE ENTRY INTO COACHING RANKS

The former Baroka FC CEO moved from an administrative role at Chippa to replace then-coach Daine Klate.

He had an impressive start to his reign at Chippa, where he became the team’s first coach to lead them to four wins on the bounce.

However, Mammila’s magic seemed to wane before the World Cup break, as Chippa had lost back-to-back league games.

He has been in charge of six league games for the Chilli Boys, who lie in a respectable sixth place, 20 points behind runaway leaders and holders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The former Orlando Pirates winger Klate lost his job just seven games into the DStv Premiership season.

The Bidvest Wits star had managed one win, two draws and four losses in charge of Chippa before getting the sack.
