Manchester United hijack deal to land Dutch star

Manchester United have agreed on a deal worth €17 million with Feyenoord for the signing of left-back Tyrell Malacia.

According to reports, the proposed deal would see United pay a guaranteed €15 million with a potential further €2 million in add-ons, including a sell-on clause.

Lyon had been negotiating for Malacia and indicated they were prepared to pay €13 million upfront with €2 million in add-ons, but United have come in at the last minute with a higher offer.

For United to complete the potential transfer, personal terms still need to be agreed upon.

Feyenoord director Frank Arnesen told 1908NL: “The agreement with Man United is there. We are now waiting for Tyrell.

“If Malacia says yes, a transfer to Manchester United is imminent”.

Malacia was a first-team regular at Feyenoord during the 2021-22 campaign, making 50 appearances in all competitions.

The 22-year-old made his debut for the Netherlands last September and has won five caps for his national side.

Malacia graduated from the Feyenoord academy and has played 136 games for his boyhood club since making his first-team bow in 2017.

United are also in talks with fellow Netherlands international Frenkie de Jong.

The Athletic reported earlier on Tuesday that talks between the Old Trafford club and Barcelona were progressing positively over a transfer worth around €65 million guaranteed with further add-ons.

New United manager Erik ten Hag took charge of his first training session on Monday, with their first pre-season friendly scheduled to take place against Liverpool on July 12.
