Marumo Gallants claim back-to-back CAF Confederation Cup victories

Marumo Gallants claimed back-to-back victories in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages after beating Saint Eloi Lupopo 2-1 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia.

Gallants travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo to face Saint Eloi Lupopo with their tails.

They claimed an emphatic 4-1 win against Al Akhdar at Dobsonville stadium last Sunday(12 February).

It was a tightly contested affair in the opening 20 minutes, with both sides failing to create real goal-scoring opportunities.

MARUMO GALLANTS TOOK CONTROL OF THE GAME

Marumo Gallants eventually found an opener through Mpho Mvelase, who scored a powerful header from a corner kick.

The South African outfit took control of the game, and they had most of the ball position going in their favour.

However, they were let down by indecisiveness in the final third.

Gallants came close to doubling the lead after Letsie Koapeng meet a beautiful cross by Ranga Chivaviro, but his header went inches off target.

Marumo Gallants stormed out on a counter-attack to find a second goal of the match through Chivaviro.

The referee blew the halftime whistle with the Limpopo outfit leading Lupopo 2-0 in the Confederation Cup.

Lupopo got the second half underway and made three substitutions as they aimed to pile pressure on Gallants.

The Lubumbashi-based side dominated the early minutes of the second half, searching for a goal, but Gallants remained resolute.

Lupopo came close to finding the back of the net in the 50th minute through a corner kick. The corner was dealt with decisively by Gallants’ defence.

Talisman Koapeng was presented with a chance to seal the match with a third goal for Gallants.

But he fired his shot straight at the goalkeeper.

The Congolese outfit pulled one back in the 83rd minute through Patou Kabangu’s free kick on the edge of Gallants’ box.

The Abram Sello-owned team held on to claim back-to-back victories with a 2-1 win over Lupopo at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

The victory against Lupopo moved Marumo Gallants top of the Confederation Cup Group A table with six points after two games played.
