Masuku: Royal AM can challenge Sundowns for league title
Royal AM midfielder Menzi Masuku has given his honest assessment of their performance against SuperSport United, while also insisting that they still can challenge Mamelodi Sundowns for the league title.
The KwaZulu-Natal outfit were beaten 3-1 by Matsatsantsa at Lucas Moribe Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Masuku believes Tuesday’s result was a true reflection of their display as they were not themselves.
He is of the opinion that even if they were given more time, Royal AM were not going to do anything to change the result, as it was not their night.
MASUKU REMAINS OPTIMISTIC
“It was not our best day at the office; we were not in control of the game; sometimes it happens,” said Masuku.
“Especially with opposition like SuperSport United, they are physically strong, and they play long balls.
“We tried, but it wasn’t our day, we tried to come back, and we couldn’t. Even if we played 120 minutes, we would’ve struggled because it was not our best day,” he added.
Thwihli Thwahla started their season like a house on fire with hopes that they would replicate their 2021/22 impressive season, where they managed to qualify for the CAF Confederations Cup, but things haven’t been smooth.
However, the 29-year-old attacker, Masuku, still has confidence that Royal AM can still bounce back and challenge Sundowns for league honours.
“We wanted to see ourselves in a better position, and we must go back to the drawing board. We are a team that is capable to bounce back and challenge for the league,” he added.
The KZN side’s next task is against Zambian giants Zesco United in the CAF Confederations Cup on Sunday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
This is an encounter that is expected to test Royal AM’s character and how strong they are to compete against the best at continental level.
