Mgcoyi anticipates tough battle against Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ lethal frontwoman Andisiwe Mgcoyi has declared her admiration for Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies and expects an explosive encounter on Wednesday.
The red-hot Brazilians will lock horns with Celtic in the Hollywoodbets Super League midweek fixture at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. The kick-off time for the clash is 15h00 in the afternoon.
Banyana Ba Style has bagged six wins out of seven games, scoring 36 goals, and only conceded just five goals. As a result, Downs Ladies are on the summit of the Super League table with 18 points, one point adrift of the second-placed JVW FC.
Mgcoyi is currently the club’s leading top goalscorer with nine strikes, one goal ahead of Boitumelo Rabale.
The speedy forward, who has been in scintillating form, admitted that it won’t be a walk in the park when they take on the Free State-based outfit, who are currently placed third on the log standings with 15 points after seven games.
“The game against Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies will be a major test for us. They are a very good side who are also gunning for the title this season. They have twice won the league (2016 and 2017), which means they have got a solid pedigree when it comes to the big clashes,” said Mgcoyi.
“Nevertheless, we have to take our chances when they come. Although we have had a couple of high-scoring encounters, I believe we can do much more in front of goal.”
Meanwhile, head coach Jerry Tshabalala added: “These are the games that define our mentality and character. Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies are not pushovers, and their results this season have been impressive.”
‘Kappa’, as he’s popularly known within football cycles, continued: “We anticipate a tough encounter, but we have to stick to our style and philosophy. We are ready to leave it all on the pitch against our opponents.”
