Mngqithi convinced Sundowns are stronger this season
Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi is convinced the team will be stronger than it was in previous years despite a shaky start to the season.
Some of their new signings including Bongani Zungu and Chilean Marcelo Allende are yet to feature for the team.
He was pleading with the club’s supporters to be patient with them as the current season progresses, assuring them the Brazilians will continue to dominate local football.
The reigning DStv Premiership Champions have had a slow start to the current season, compared to how they fared after the first four matches last season.
They have collected seven out of a possible 12 points scoring seven and conceding two.
Last season, they only dropped two points in their first four matches without conceding a goal.
In fact, they went 10 straight matches before conceding a single goal at the start of last season.
Speaking after their 1-1 draw against Sekhukhune United at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday, Mngqithi paid homage to the club’s fanbase who have shown tremendous support at their matches but also pleaded for patience.
“We know how much they love the team and they must also be patient with the team.
“The team is going to come right, the team is going to be very strong.
“Stronger than what it was last season, believe me,” he said.
“But this is a process and a process that you must treat carefully to make sure that we arrive at our final destination, the way we want to arrive.
“I think I should take this opportunity to thank the yellow nation.
“They are giving us the atmosphere that we think we deserve.
“We have missed them for the longest time and now that they are back they are making sure that they are filling almost all the stadiums when we play.
“They were in Cape Town; they have been in Loftus and helped us. They are here now in Polokwane,” added Mngqithi.
“Believe me with this kind of support we can only grow from strength to strength because we know how loyal they are to us.”
Sundowns will host Stellenbosch in their next league match on Wednesday.
