Morgan Mammila shows love to his centenarian granny
Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila has shown love to his centenarian granny Maredi Thobejane by giving her a Chilli Boys’ jersey after the club’s 3-1 win on penalties against Polokwane City in the Nedbank Cup last 32 clash.
In October last year, Mammila couldn’t hold back his tears after when his side defeated Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 and paid tribute to his grandmother during the post-match interview.
At that time, the Gqeberha-based outfit had won three consecutive league matches under his tutelage of Mammila.
That victory saw Chippa win three games in a row for the first time in eight years.
Mammila had recently taken over the coaching reigns from the demoted Daine Klate following a string of poor results.
The Chilli Boys’ mentor reckons that his is the reason behind his success in the football fraternity.
Mammila noted that his grandmother supported him from the first day he got involved in football from the grassroots level.
WHAT MORGAN MAMMILA SAID ABOUT HIS GRANNY AFTER CHIEFS GAME
“Please allow me to thank my family, especially my grandmother,” said Mammila.
“Thank you for the support that you gave me when I started being involved in football from the grassroots level. I hope now you can see what it has yielded.
“I was raised by my grandmother, who is over 100 years old now. And she’s still walking and talking, and she’s watching football.
“While you’re still watching, look at what your grandson is doing right now because of the support that you gave me from an early age.”
Mammila’s granny is now 102 years old and she was happy to don the Chippa jersey presented by her nephew.
Now, Chippa will shift their focus to the DStv Premiership clash against Swallows on Sunday, 26 February 2023.
The kick-off is scheduled for 15:30 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
