Msimango on facing former teammate for the first time

Saturday’s DStv Premiership clash at Mbombela Stadium will see Given Msimango take on a former teammate Wayde Lekay, who recently joined Cape Town City.

Tomorrow’s encounter will be the Rockets’ sixth game of the season, and the team is yet to lose a match, having won two games and drew three in the process.

Lekay parted ways with the Mpumalanga club before the commencement of the new campaign, after spending two seasons at Galaxy, having joined them from Steenberg United.

During his stay at the Rockets, the frontman found the back of the net on eight occasions from 45 games across all competitions.

After being released by Galaxy, Lekay tried his luck with Royal AM and Kaizer Chiefs but failed to secure deals with both clubs. He later joined the Citizens as a free agent.

Msimango, who will now go up against a former teammate, said: “It is always nice to play against your former colleagues. I’m happy that he has found a new club and is doing well at the moment.

“But the friendship will start after the game. Before the match, the focus is on the job at hand, and they are my opponent, so I have to do what I have to do to help my team win on the day.”

Turning his attention to the game itself, this is what the 25-year-old Brakpan-born defender had to say: “The City game is going to be very tough. I’m not thinking about last season because they are a different team now.  However, they are playing similar football to us, but they are a very dangerous team. But we are not going to change how we play as we will go into this game and take advantage of their weaknesses and get maximum points on the day.”

As things stand, Galaxy are placed fifth on the log standings with nine points, whereas the Citizens find themselves in the 12th position with five points.
