Ncikazi reveals why Marou hasn’t made his Pirates debut

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has revealed the real reason why their new recruit Souaibou Marou hasn’t made his debut for the DStv Premiership giants.

The 22-year-old striker joined the Sea Robbers last month from Cameroon’s top flight club, Coton Sport.

He penned a deal that will see him stay at the Soweto giants until 2025.

Marou joined his fellow countryman goalscorer Bienvenu Eva Nga, who hasn’t made much impact at the club.

The Cameroonian international was seen as direct replacement for Kwame Peprah, who joined Maritzburg United on a loan.

Marou was an unused substitute when the Buccaneers went head-to-head with Motsepe Foundation Championship side All Stars.

Pirates managed secure 2-0 win against in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32 at Wits Football Stadium this past weekend.

After the game, Ncikazi came forward to clear the air why the highly-rated frontman is yet to make his official debut for Pirates.

WHY SOUAIBOU MAROU HASN’T PLAYED FOR PIRATES

“The language is different from us and has become an adaptation that we need to overcome,” the Pirates assistant mentor told the media.

“However, he is doing well and you can see he is a top player. He just has to adapt to how we play.

“I’m hoping the adaptation will happen soon.”

MANDLA NCIKAZI HAD HOPED FOR SOUAIBOU MAROU TO PLAY AGAINST ALL STARS

Ncikazi went on to reveal that he hoped for the goalscorer to get some playing time against All Stars this past weekend.

“I had hoped and wished he could have had a chance to play against All Stars,” he added.

“But maybe he will have chances in the next games.”

Bucs will now shift their focus to the next league match against Maritzburg United at home on Friday, 17 February 2023.
