New Yanga president Eng. Hersi makes heartfelt promise

Engineer [Eng.] Hersi Said Ally has made a heartfelt promise to Young Africans’ followers after he was elected the Tanzania club’s first president.

The 38-year-old has been at the forefront in driving the turnaround strategy that brought back the glory to Young Africans. Yanga completed the domestic treble last weekend when they won the Azam Federation Cup final after beating Coastal Union 4-1 after a penalty shootout.

His election is necessitated by changes to the club’s constitution which require the election of a president, his vice and five members to form the Executive Committee.
On Saturday, members of the club unanimously endorsed Eng. Hersi and he has since pledged to deliver Tanzania’s first African trophy.

“This is a big thing for me, but honestly speaking, I’ve done my part in bringing the club to where it is for the past two and a half years. We are champions of Tanzania, the winner of the Charity Cup and the FA Cup.

“To me, this is the most significant achievement that I was part of when I was not even the club president. For now, sitting in this position as the club president is more responsibility for me with many expectations. But I promise I’m capable of running the club and running the position of president of the biggest club in Tanzania.

“And I pray INSHALLAH I want to bring the first African trophy to Tanzania. This is my intention, and I’m praying I will also put effort into achieving this under my leadership,” Eng. Hersi told FARPost.

In the last two years, Eng. Hersi has been serving as Chairman of Timu ya Wananchi’s Signing Committee that sought to end the club’s trophy drought. They had not won a significant trophy since 2017 as their rivals Simba won it four times successively.

Meanwhile, Haji Arafat was elected Young Africans’ new vice President after garnering a total of 545 votes against his opponent Suma Mwaitenda who got only 234.
