Njabulo Blom trains with Gauteng side as he awaits visa

While he awaits his visa documents to jet off to the United States of America (USA), former Kaizer Chiefs utility player Njabulo Blom trained with Motsepe Foundation Championship side MM Platinum, known as La Masia.

Blom recently parted ways with Chiefs to join Major League Soccer (MLS) side St. Louis City, whom former Bafana Bafana defender Bradley Carnell coaches.

The Soweto-born star was reportedly sold by Amakhosi for approximately R5 million, penning a two-year deal with the American team.

Blom, who will likely get his visa to travel to the USA to join his new club in the next few days, trained with La Masia at the Panorama Sports Grounds in Roodeport on Tuesday.

The National First Division (NFD) newcomers, La Masia, welcomed Blom to their training session as they were preparing for their league game against All Stars at Giant Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

It appears the 23-year-old wants to keep his fitness level on par and ensure that he is ready for his first stint abroad in the colours of St. Louis.

However, his Chiefs departure was described as “bittersweet” by Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr as the club and Blom had reached an impasse in contract negotiations over a new deal.

Blom’s contract was set to expire, and reports indicated that the player’s camp demanded a much-improved deal.

But Chiefs were not prepared to meet the midfielder’s terms, eventually allowing him to start a new life in America.

Blom was promoted from Chiefs’ development structures to the first team in 2019, and he has impressed ever since with eye-catching performances.

Blom’s hard work was rewarded as he earned a Bafana Bafana call-up in 2021 and made his international debut the same year in September when the national team beat Ghana 1-0 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier at home.

He also featured for South Africa at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the 2019 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Niger.

In Chiefs colours, he made 94 appearances, including 15 in the CAF Champions League.
