Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets retain fourth straight title
Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets beat Moyale Barracks 3-1 on Saturday afternoon to retain the TNM Super League championship for a fourth consecutive time.
A double from up-and-coming striker Lanjesi Nkhoma and defender Gomezgani Chirwa’s late goal at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre did the job for Bullets.
Llyod Njaliwa scored the consolation goal for the visiting soldiers of Moyale from Mzuzu.
The wins mean Bullets next matches against Karonga United and Dedza Dynamos are merely academic.
It was a matter of more personal glory for Zimbabwean coach Kalisto Pasuwa who has now won four consecutive league titles with Bullets.
Overall, Pasuwa has won eighth consecutive league titles, including the four he bagged with Dynamos in Zimbabwe.
BULLETS EIGHT POINTS CLEAR
Bullets took their tally to 67 points, eight points ahead of second placed Blue Eagles.
Each team has two games each to wind up the season in the 16-member league.
Pasuwa took a brief break after leaving Dynamos before crossing the Zimbabwe border to join Bullets in 2018.
Bullets increased their title prospects after defeating Wakawaka Tigers 2-0 in Blantyre on Wednesday to move five points clear of second-placed Eagles.
The defending champions have two games to wrap up the season.
Bullets have since made in on an overall record-extending 16th league title.
The Blantyre giants also won the FDH Bank cup recently after beating their reserve side 3-1.
Bullets are also chasing Airtel Top 8 championship.
Adepoju leads the Super League top scorer race with 17 goals from 26 games.
The Nigerian scored in the game against Tigers on Wednesday to increase his Golden Boot Award prospects.
Adepoju is two goals clear of ex-Polokwane City’s Muhamad Sulumba of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.
The Malawi domestic league runs from March to December.
Mobile phone service provider TNM sponsors the league to the tune of around $80,000.
League champions pocket around $30,000.
