Older strikers are sharper, says Rodney Ramagalela

Newly signed University of Pretoria striker Rodney Ramagalela insists footballers, who are older should never be discarded as they have a lot to offer.

Ramagalela recently signed with AmaTuks after a long layoff without a club.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns marksman is of the view that there is a tendency in South African football to underutilize players once they are over the age of 30.

The 33-year-old says statistics have proven over the years that it’s older strikers, who have been banging in goals.

“I know there will be the issues of age and all those things,” said Ramagalela.

“I only hear this thing of age in South Africa. To be honest, go and check the stats in this country and what the so-called old players have done for the game.

“It’s not surprising to see teams going for madalas (older players) like me, as people always call us. But for me, it’s not about how old I am. I can’t just focus on the football side,” he said.

RODNEY RAMAGALELA EAGER TO MAKE AN IMPACT

“As you know AmaTuks is a team that wants to compete and fight for everything. It’s the same as me, I always want to compete and fight for everything.

“So I think I am the right guy to join this team and try to bring my experience and also to help the younger players,” added Ramagalela.

“But most importantly help the team get promoted back to the DStv Premiership.”

AmaTuks lost one of their regular goalscorers Thabang Sibanyoni who moved to SuperSport United. But the club have added former Baroka striker Lungelo Nguse.

They have also brought in well traveled striker Thokozani Sekotlong who joined together with Ramagalela. The club has not struggled in front of goals as they have scored 13 in 12 matches.
