Ghana national team coach Otto Addo is confident that they have what it takes to progress from their Group at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Addo took charge of Ghana in February after the sacking of Milovan Rajevac following their early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.
He is tasked with leading the Black Stars in Group H alongside Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.
ADDO ON EXPECTATIONS
But the 47-year-old, who is also a talent manager at Borussia Dortmund, believes there is potential for the squad to progress.
“The energy is always high, everybody is looking forward to playing at the world cup,” he said while announcing his 26-men squad on Monday.
“It is the first time for a lot of players so it’s a big thing. I am looking forward to playing, it’s the first time as a coach for me. The boys look ready.
“How far (we will proceed?) it’s difficult to say. We have to take it step by step. The first aim is to advance to the group stage. As I said I am confident enough that I know that we can do it. We have a good squad and the players are very adaptable,” he said.
ON THE MESSAGE TO PLAYERS LEFT OUT
“I am a person who works on principles. So, I wouldn’t like to do to anybody, what I wouldn’t like them to do to me. I hope you understand that. I wouldn’t like to talk about players who are not in the squad and like I gave you some reasons both on and off the pitch.
“The reasons were well communicated to the players, so it’s between me and the players and for me that’s it.
“I know why they are not in the squad and it’s very difficult to understand from outside but it’s not good to talk about who is not here.”
