Pitso Mosimane’s Al-Ahli Saudi returned to winning ways in the second-tier league after beating Alkholood 2-1 on Tuesday night at Al-Hazem Club Stadium.
Ex-Premier League striker Modou Barrow’s goal handed Pitso Mosimane the win in the Championship; Saudi Arabian First Division match.
It was the former Swansea striker Modou Barrow’s first goal since signing for Al-Ahli Saudi.
Pitso Mosimane’s team had earlier let slip an early lead at Alham Club Stadium.
Hassan Al-Ali had placed Al-Ahli Saudi ahead with his 40th minute strike. However, the visitors’ lead vanished in added time of the opening half.
It was now the turn of Barrow to restore the lead in the last quarter of the game.
The win took All-Ahli Saudi’s tally to 40 points from 20 matches.
PITSO MOSIMANE FIGHTING FOR PROMOTION
Al Ahli are at par on points with Alhazem who earlier beat Najran 3-0 in an earlier kick-off.
It was a meeting between the third-placed Al-Ahli for Pitso Mosimane and the ninth-positioned Alkhohood.
The former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns mentor was desperate to return to winning ways.
This was the case as his winning run ended last Thursday when his Al-Ahli Saudi lost 1-4 to AL-Okhdood.
It was Pitso Mosimane’s first loss in 13 matches since he took over the second-tier team.
The former Bafana Bafana boss has won eight league games, drawn five matches and lost once with the Jeddah-based outfit.
Mosimane is on track to deliver on his mandate of earning Al-Ahli an instant return to the Saudi Arabian Professional League.
Mosimane found the team in the middle of the log table. The former Sundowns gaffer took over Al-Ahli mid-last year months. He had then just parted ways with Al Ahly.
Mosimane went on a sabbatical for a few months after leaving the Reds of Cairo.
The 57-year-old had delivered the goods in Egypt, bagging two CAF Champions League titles in three attempts.
