Pressure mounts on Burnley FC striker Lyle Foster to prove his worth

After an underwhelming start to life in the EFL Championship in Burnley colours, the pressure is seemingly mounting on Bafana Bafana striker, Lyle Foster.

The Clarets host Wigan Athletic at Turf Moor in all-North West battle this Saturday afternoon – 11th March [5pm] and Foster is still searching for his first goal at Burnley FC.

Foster has not had the best of starts at Burnley FC in terms of goals as he is yet to find the back of the net in the eight appearances for the club.

And this has led to some dissatisfaction around Burnley FC’s fanbase, especially after his FA Cup appearance last week against Fleetwood Town.

WHY FOSTER IS UNDER PRESSURE TO SCORE

According to The Athletic, Foster’s build-up play was good on the eye, however his end product in front of goals let him down. Which led to frustrations around the fanbase.

However, despite the murmuring about the striker’s final product in front of goals by the supporters, Burnley FC coach Vincent Kompany is fully backing the 22-year-old.

“Internally, there are no concerns about Foster. He has settled into a welcoming dressing room and on the training pitch, he is adapting and learning while consistently showing his goal-scoring touch,” said The Athletic.

In Burnley’s press conference on Thursday, 9 March, Kompany continued to show his confidence in Foster. And believes that the Bafana striker still has room to grow.

“I think in terms of tools, remember that all the players that we bought were players we bought them on tools rather than a proven record, because we couldn’t afford them otherwise,” said Kompany.

“He [Foster] has all the tools. He is able to receive the ball in between the lines, he’s got decent speed to run in behind.

“And as well, he is strong in contact, he can run, meaning if we don’t have the ball, it won’t weaken us in a press. I said it before he came that we are really happy with the striker we have.”

Kompany: “So all he has to do now literally, is just blend his way in and then he will have his moment. And when he has his moment, then he will have the momentum.

“But I am pleased with the tools I have seen so far, because I know what kind of these players can become. When they are young, it’s all about the work you do in training.”
