Protests force Dondol Stars-AmaZulu Nedbank Cup tie venue change

Student protests have forced the PSL to move the Nedbank Cup round of 16 fixture between Dondol Stars and AmaZulu FC to FNB Stadium.

The fixture was initially scheduled for the TUT Stadium but will now take place at FNB.  

“The date and kick-off will remain the same [Wednesday, 08 March 2023 at 19h30],” the PSL announced via a statement.

“The venue change was necessitated by the student protest action at the Tshwane University of Technology campus, which began earlier this week.”

The PSL has also advised that spectators who had already purchased tickets for TUT Stadium can use the same ticket at FNB Stadium. 

The encounter is the only match on Wednesday and the first of the last round of fixtures which are set to conclude on Sunday, 12 March. 

Dondol are in the last 16 after the shock win against five-time champions SuperSport United in the last 32 Nedbank Cup tie. The Gauteng side are also doing well in the ABC Motsepe League. They are firm favourites to advance to the national playoffs as they are currently on top of the table.

USUTHU WON’T UNDERESTIMATE MINNOWS IN NEDBANK CUP TIE

AmaZulu on the other hand are favourites to advance to the quarterfinals stage. They booked their place in the last 16 spot following a 3-2 win against ABC Motsepe League side Tornado.

Usuthu are enduring a 31-year trophy drought. But came close in 2012 when they lost to now defunct Bidvest Wits in the final.

AmaZulu are set to welcome back Thembela Sikhakhane who missed the DStv Premiership match against Chippa United due to suspension. Sikhakhane was serving a one-match suspension due to the four yellow cards accumulated.
