PSL legend Musa Otieno resigns as Kenya Police FC coach

South Africa Premier Soccer League legend Musa Otieno has resigned as an assistant coach at Kenya Police.

The former Engen Santos centre-back Musa Otieno did not disclose the reasons for his resignation.

The towering man told Kenya’s Nation newspaper that the reasons for his decision were ‘a story for another day.”

MUSA OTIENO’S 14 ILLUSTRIOUS SEASONS WITH SANTOS

Musa Otieno spent 14 illustrious seasons with Santos when they were then campaigning in the PSL.

The 48-year-old played for the Cape Town-based outfit from 1997 to 2011, when he retired.

He scored 34 goals after having made 311 appearances for Santos. Musa Otieno was also capped 90 times and scored nine goals for the Harambee Stars.

As a teenager, he made his debut for the senior national team in 1993. The former Harambee Stars skipper had played for top Kenyan teams such as AFC Leopards and Tusker FC before he moved to South Africa.

He also runs a football foundation apart from being involved in coaching.

THE LOSS THAT PROVED TO BE THE LAST STRAW FOR OTIENO

Otieno resigned hours after Police FC lost 1-0 to Kakamega Homeboys over the weekend. Moses Shuma scored the only goal of the game in the 89th minute to condemn Police to defeat, leaving Otieno with no choice but to call it time.

The former Harambee Stars defender joined Police in March this year alongside head coach Sammy Omollo.

The duo had replaced former coach John Bobby Ogolaa and technical director Lukas Tott.

Police were promoted to the top-flight league of Kenya last season, but they have struggled to impress.

The law enforcers’ struggles are happening despite their management investing heavily in the team, including buying new players.

Kenya Police Service formed the football club in 2014 with a mission of policing through sports and promoting a good relationship between the public and law enforcers.
