PSL slap Swallows with a fine

Swallows have pleaded guilty to the charges by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee and were subsequently slapped with a hearty fine.

They were charged on two counts, for delaying the kickoff of their DStv Premiership match against Cape Town City by three minutes and amending a team sheet without the approval of the match officials or their opponents

Defender Nicholus Lukhubeni was initially named in the starting line-up for the Dube Birds but Kwanda Mngonyama, who was named on the bench, ended up starting the match.

Swallows appeared before the DC on Thursday evening.

“The respondent Swallows pleaded guilty and subsequently convicted as such. Having listened to the submissions from both parties legal representatives with regard to the appropriate sanction,” said PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu.

“The PSL DC sanctioned Swallows football club as follows; a monetary fine of R 50 000 of which R 40 000 is suspended and R 10 000 payable effectively on condition that during the 12 months reckoned from today (Thursday) they are not found guilty of the same offence again.

“They were also ordered to pay the cost of the sitting. In total, the amount of money that Swallows would have to pay arising from these proceedings is approximately R 80 000,” he said.

Meanwhile, the PSL DC case involving Cape Town City regarding their FNB Sponsorship will sit on Monday, 22 August at 18:30. The Citizens are charged for allegedly failing to seek approval from the PSL’s executive committee prior to clinching their FNB sponsorship deal.

City are at loggerheads with the PSL over the deal, announced by the Cape club on 1 August. The Premier Soccer League have voiced their concern that the sponsorship is in conflict with the league’s sponsorship for the Nedbank Cup.
