REVEALED: Pirates and Sundowns set for epic MTN8 semifinal

The semifinal draw for the 2022 MTN 8 tournament took place on Monday evening following the completion of the quarterfinal encounters this past weekend.

Defending Champions have been drawn against rivals Orlando Pirates while Kaizer will be up against AmaZulu.

Both Pirates and Chiefs will host the first semifinal while Masandawana and Usuthu will play host in the second semi.

15-time champions Kaizer Chiefs came from behind to defeat Stellenbosch FC 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at the Danie Craven Stadium on Sunday.

Sihle Nduli opened the scoring to hand Stellies, but Ashley du Preez scored to level matters for Amakhosi who went on to win 4-3 on penalties with Itumeleng Khune being the hero in the penalty shootout.

On the other hand, Sundowns produced a strong second-half display in their 2-0 victory over their city rivals SuperSport United in a Tshwane Derby match which was played at the Tuks Stadium also on Sunday.

Masandawana’s two goals were netted by Marcelo Allende and Abubeker Nasir who were both introduced in the second half and they proved to be inspired substitutes for the DStv Premiership champions in a quarterfinal clash.

Orlando Pirates defeated Royal AM 2-1 at the Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday evening thanks to goals from Vincent Pule and Thabiso Monyane. Thwihli Thwahla, meanwhile, found the back of the net through Shaune Mogaila.

In the other quarterfinal, AmaZulu FC emerged as 2-1 winners over Cape Town City after extra-time at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday.

The first leg of the semifinals is scheduled for Saturday, 1 October while the second leg will take place on the weekend of 22 October 2022. The final is scheduled for Saturday, 5 November.
