Richards Bay star keeper Magoola trains with Ugandan side

Richards Bay goalkeeper Salim Jamal Magoola is training with Ugandan childhood club KCCA FC to keep fit during the break.

Magoola, who has been a revelation in the DStv Premiership for the rookies, is back in Uganda in view of the 2022 Qatar World Cup break.

KCCA have since posted on their Twitter handle that they have welcomed back the star keeper.

“This afternoon, our former player Jamal Salim paid us a courtesy visit and handed footballs to the club to extend his gratitude for always welcoming him back and accepting him to train with the team,” the club tweeted.

MAGOOLA EXCITED BY WARM WELCOME

The clean-sheet specialist has since said he was excited to receive a warm welcome back home.

“There’s nothing more special than being welcomed at home,” he said.

Magoola featured for KCCA in his early career days and led them to the Uganda Premier League championship in the 2012/2013 season.

The 27-year-old has been largely the reason Richards Bay are in an unfamiliar position on the log table.

Richards Bay are placed second, thanks to Magoola’s nine clean sheets in 13 games this season.

The league newcomers have amassed 23 points from 13 games, five points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

WHAT MICHO SAID ABOUT MAGOOLA

Recently, ex-Orlando Pirates coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic saluted Magoola for his exploits.

Micho, who is Uganda coach, told FARPost they were monitoring Magoola’s brilliance ahead of the Cranes’ next assignments.

“I’m very happy that he’s a very good ambassador of Uganda football and Ugandan goalkeeping after Denis Onyango,” he said.

“I was happy even when he was recruited by Richards Bay. Now that he delivers with only three goals conceded in 12 matches that they’ve played as a team, and they’re at top of the table.”
