Richards Bay are reportedly monitoring former Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu forward Augustine Mulenga, with the club’s co-coach Pitso Dladla admitting they are still searching for a striker.
The Natal Rich Boyz recorded their first defeat against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday evening at the sold-out Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Chiefs, who hosted their home game in Durban, were reduced to 10 men after Yusuf Maart got a straight red card for a professional foul.
Dladla believes they could have done better as they failed to punish their opponents, who converted a penalty through Dillan Solomons to win 1-0.
“I think it was a game whereby the first ten minutes were under pressure. Kaizer Chiefs played very well, rotating their play but not creating chances to punish us.
“We wanted to press them, but we couldn’t punish them even when they were one man down. We could have done better in transition and finished all the chances we got,” Dladla told the media.
While the Premiership newcomers Richards Bay might be playing entertaining football and creating chances, converting seems challenging.
Dladla admits that the club is still searching for a forward with the window open.
“I will remind you that we’ve never made it a secret that we still need to beef up the team.
“We needed three more players; we’ve already signed a goalkeeper and left back.
“We are now looking for a striker; we want a player that will fit in our system because we don’t just want to add anyone for the sake of signing. “The chairman and management are working hard to get that player.”
Mulenga is reportedly in Zambia recovering from an injury, a concern for the KZN club. He was released by Usuthu in June together with several other players.
He has made it clear that he wants to remain in the DStv Premiership.
