Rulani Mokwena addresses Cassius Mailula’s exit talk

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has addressed the recent talk of Cassius Mailula having attracted the interest of overseas clubs.

According to reports, Mailula has attracted the interest of an unnamed Ligue 1 side.

But the Bafana Ba Style mentor, Mokwena, has since come forward to clear the air about the links, citing that they haven’t received any “offer.”

Mailula has been in sensational form for the DStv Premiership defending champions this season under the tutelage of Mokwena. So far, he has scored 12 goals in 18 appearances across all competitions.

When asked whether Mailula will still be a Sundowns player during the Nedbank Cup virtual press conference, Mokwena said, “No, we haven’t received any offer from anyone”.

The 21-year-old winger has proven that he is one of the few players that Sundowns cannot afford to lose should the club decide on selling some of their star players.

Mokwena was also asked about the latest on Andile Jali’s Sundowns contract issue. This comes after the 32-year-old midfielder’s management confirmed that have received offers from local and overseas teams for the services of Jali.

“I don’t want to get too much into that space. As you said, it is quite polluted with so much hearsay,” Mokwena told the media.

“So, I’ll rather not comment because I have spoken much about it before. To avoid being misquoted, I would rather not say anything and wait for the club to give a directive on the matter.”

Mamelodi Sundowns will face Marumo Gallants in the Nedbank Cup last 16 on Thursday, 2 March 2023. The game is scheduled to kick off at 18:00 at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.
