Rulani Mokwena names Sundowns’ consistent performer
Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has named the club’s consistent performer in the last two seasons.
Mokwena believes that defender Khuliso Mudau has been a standout performer in the last two seasons.
The charismatic coach said this ahead of their clash against La Passe in their CAF Champions League second preliminary round on Sunday.
Bafana Ba Style will welcome the Seychelles side at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 16h00.
CONSISTENT PERFORMER
“If there’s been a player that has been extremely consistent in his performances in the past two seasons, it has to be Sailor. That is also a reflection of the quality that he is,” Mokwena told the Media.
“Apart from the qualities of being a top football player, he also has the qualities of being a very good human being.
“He’s a difficult player to manage at training because you’ve got to stimulate him because he’s talented.
“When he says he wants to come here to learn and to improve, when you’re very good already, to stimulate to be better is very, very difficult.”
The 26-year-old joined the Chloorkop-based side two years from Lidoda Duvha, and he has been phenomenal for the DStv Premiership defending champions.
His stellar performances at Downs saw him receive numerous Bafana Bafana call-ups.
The Limpopo-born also reflected on how he had to fight for his position against the best defenders at the club.
“As a player, you just need to believe in yourself that maybe one day you’re going to make it and compete with those so-called big names,” said Mudau.
“I told myself that if I have to compete, then I will compete.”
The ex-Black Leopards man reckons that it will be a difficult encounter as they will be playing against a team they don’t know much about.
However, Masandawana has been monitoring their opponents, after watching their footage of them playing against Volcan Moroni in the first round.
MUDAU ON FACING LA PASSE
“It’s kind of difficult because we don’t know them, but we just have to apply ourselves as we would with our usual games,” said Mudau during the CAF Champions League press conference.
“We just have to take every match as seriously as we usually do.”
