SA football legend opens up on new CAF role

Former Bafana Bafana and Leeds United captain Lucas Radebe has been roped into the CAF Technical & Development Committee.

The committee comprises other African Football legends such as Emmanuel Adebayor, Khalilou Fadiga and Geremi Njitap.

Amongst others, their role will be to facilitate the technical development of African football.

“I am very excited it’s a role that opens our minds and a scope of football in Africa because I think for ex-players being involved, it shows the directions that football is taking, which is great,” Radebe said.

“We have great people involved like Geremi Njitap, very experienced people in the committee who I think are passionate about the development of the game for both Men and Women to make an impact in Africa.

“We look at ourselves as Africans and look at where we are in football and how we can develop and have progress and challenge our expertise which is going to be very important,” he added.

The 53-year-old has also not hidden his disappointment on being overlooked in his own country while being recognised on the continent.

“It has been a disappointment, but for me, it has not been a problem. If it’s going to happen, it will happen.

“But we know the challenges that we are facing in the country, which is not football matters. It is very disappointing because it discourages the up-and-coming and those who love to get involved, especially the players,” he said.
