Former Orlando Pirates winger Sifiso Myeni is scheduled to arrive in Botswana on Tuesday after penning a one-year deal with second-tier side VTM, writes Kabelo Boranabi.
The club announced his signing on Monday evening, adding that the 33-year-old, who played for Orlando Pirates between 2012 and 2016, was joining them on a free transfer.
VTM competes in the Debswana First Division South league after gaining promotion last season.
Myeni has spent time on the sidelines without a club and looks set to revive his career in the neighbouring country. He recently said he had not yet retired and wanted to play football.
VTM rallied the club’s fans to welcome the player at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport.
“We are proud to announce the signing of former Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United and Wits University winger Sifiso Myeni on a one-year deal.
“Myeni is expected to land in Botswana on Tuesday 23rd August at 4:20 pm. Let’s meet him at the airport,” the club said on social media platforms.
VTM are one of the most ambitious clubs in Botswana and boasts better facilities despite its establishment in 2017.
The club is financed by VTM Security Services and has built a mini stadium in Gamononyane village, 40km outside the capital city, Gaborone.
The club will debut in the second-tier league after winning the promotional playoffs from third-tier football in the past league campaign.
They will be banking on Myeni’s experience as they push for promotion to the top flight.
He won the league title with Wits in the 2016/17 season before lifting the MTN8 the following season.
Much of his career was with The Students, where he played 114 matches before featuring for Orlando Pirates 130 times. He only played 10 games for SuperSport.
Myeni has, however, struggled to find a club after being released by TS Sporting in 2020.
The Debswana First Division South league in Botswana will kick off in October.
