South Africa Under 17 Amajimbos put 11 past Seychelles
On the very Lilongwe pitch where their sisters scored 12 goals on Saturday morning, South Africa Under 17 boys’ team (Amajimbos) netted 11 in the afternoon.
Amajimbos made fun of Seychelles with Siyabonga Mabena scoring five goals at Bingu National Stadium in the AFCON Under-17 qualifier for the Cosafa region.
South Africa Under 17s stepped on the pitch on a cloudless afternoon aware that Bantwana had just punished Namibia 12-0 hours earlier.
SOUTH AFRICA UNDER 17s MAKE PERFECT START
When they needed a perfect start to the game, Amajimbos looked up to a gem called Siyabonga Mabena.
The School of Excellence prodigy opened the floodgates in the fourth minute.
Mabena struck again in the ninth and 10th minutes to complete his hat-trick well before break.
Displaying a repertoire of flicks and tricks, Mabena added his fourth goal in added time of the opening half.
As Seychelles walked off the pitch for a breather, you could see the pain of injustice inflicted by the unplayable Mabena.
SECOND HALF FORMALITY
The second-half was a formality meant to confirm the score-line and not the winner.
Amajimbos continued from where they had left in the first half as they scored five goals after break.
Captain Benjamin Wallis bagged a hattrick, including the last one from the penalty spot.
Xhosa Manyama put his name on the scoresheet and Mabena took his tally to five goals after scoring once.
The win made South Africa among the favourites for the under-17 boys championship.
Matches at the Lilongwe stadium are also being played as part of the Region 5 Games involving teams from other nations and other disciplines.
