South African starlet on the cusp of joining Danish giants

A South African youngster could be joining a renowned Danish club in the coming weeks.

The 20-year-old centre-back Rushwin Dortley has flown to Scandinavia where he is set to undergo a two-week assessment at Superliga outfit FC Nordsjaelland.

Nordsjaelland are one of the prominent clubs in North Europe and recently produced the likes of Kamaldeen Suleman and Mohammed Kudus who are now with Ajax Amsterdam and Stade Rennes respectively.

Last season, the club finished outside the top six in the log standings – mostly due to selling most of their regular players from the 2020/21 campaign.

Dortley has been playing regular first-team football for the past two seasons – he was one of the best defenders in the GladAfrica Championship last season where he played 20 league games.

He was on the radar of local clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Cape Town City and Kaizer Chiefs, but the left-footed sweeper has set his sights on furthering his career abroad.

His representative Paul Mitchell has since revealed to this publication that the high-rated defender is indeed in Scandinavia

“Yes, Rushwin is in Denmark for an assessment with Nordsjaelland,” he explained.

It is this development that led to his exclusion from the current Bafana Bafana squad that is set to begin their 2022 Cosafa Cup campaign against Mozambique on Wednesday in Durban.

Bafana are being led by coach Helman Mkhalele as they look to defend their Southern Africa title which they won last year.

The camp is also being used to start preparations for the 2024 Olympics in Paris where Dortley is expected to lead the defence alongside the likes of Keegan Allan and Bradley Cross.

It remains to be seen if the youngster will sign a permanent deal, but #FARPost will keep tabs on the story as it develops in the coming days.
