Sundowns Ladies enjoy bright start to Super League title defence

Mamelodi Sundowns enjoyed a successful start to the defence of their Hollywoodbets Super League title with a 1-0 against Richmond United on Sunday, 5 February at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

A total of 20 goals were scored in the opening eight matches of the new Super League season.

Lesotho international star Boitumelo Rabale netted the only goal of the match in the second half as Sundowns Ladies registered a win.

The goal was a result of a cross from Chuene Morifi on the left flank of the Sundowns attack, which found Rabale right in the centre of the opposition’s box.

Even though Sundowns had most of the chances in the game, Richmond United had a few breaks which did not amount to anything due to the solid defence of Sundowns.

SUNDOWNS CONTINIOUS THREAT AGAINST SOLID RICHMOND UNITED DEFENCE

In this game, Richmond United had a clear plan to keep Sundowns from scoring.

Richmond United let in plenty of goals into their own net from Sundowns in the previous season. In both legs last season, Richmond United lost 5-0 and 4-2, respectively.

However, this time around, Richmond looked defensively sound from the first minute of game to the last.

Even when Banyana Ba Style went ahead in the 46th minute, United’s defence stayed committed to their job.

But the United’s defence did not stop the continuous attack from Sundowns that went on through both halves of the game.
