Super League wrap: 10-woman Downs maintain winning streak
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies has now won 14 games from 15 outings in the Hollywoodbets Super League. Jerry Tshabalala’s side has scored a league-high 67 goals and conceded just only nine times.
The high-flying Brazilians have consolidated their top spot following a 3-0 victory over City Lads Ladies at the Westbourne Oval Stadium, thanks to goals from Boitumelo Rabale, Chantelle Esau, and Miche Minnies.
As things stand, Banyana Ba Style are flourishing on the summit of the log standings with 42 points, just a point adrift from second-placed JVW FC, who thrashed Durban Ladies 3-0 on their own turf.
Masandawa skipper Zanele Nhlapho commended her side on how they fostered a sense of togetherness to restore the team’s sparkle after defender Bambanani Mbane received an early red card.
“I am very happy with the way we fought gallantly because the match was not easy by any means. The early red card destabilized our rhythm, but we found a way to weather the storms,” said Zanele in a post-match interview.
“Playing with 10 women for a long time pushed us to the limit and we had to dig deep for the result. Everyone fought hard for this result, and we are proud to claim maximum points after such a difficult battle.
“We also give credit to the technical team for managing the squad due to the fatigue from playing twice every week. Getting three goals and three points and keeping a clean sheet makes us happy and it’s time to plan for the next.”
Meanwhile, Bloemfontein Celtic got the better of Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) with a 3-2 scoreline.
This result, saw TUT drop down the log to the third position with 39 points after 19. They are now winless in their last three fixtures.
