Tembo laments ‘bad luck’ costing Sekhukhune

Sekhukhune United played to a 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch in a DStv Premiership match at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening, and Kaitano Tembo attributes his men’s poor form to bad luck.

It was their fourth draw in the eight games they have played since the season started.

Babina Noko dominated proceedings by creating plenty of opportunities but failed to convert.

The Limpopo club found the back of the net first via Tshegofatso Mabasa in the first half.

But Stellies forward Sinethemba Mngomezulu silenced the home crowd with a stunning goal in the second stanza.

“I think it could be bad luck because I think with the chances that we have been creating, I see them putting them away in training,” Sekhukhune coach Tembo told the media after the match.

“But when it comes to matches it doesn’t happen. It’s been a huge problem for us. All we can do is to continue working with the players especially attacking players in and around the box.

“To work on their confidence in terms of their composure. I think we are lacking in terms of composure in and around the box,” added Tembo.

“It has been our problem (scoring goals) since the season started. We play good football, we get into good areas and we create a lot of opportunities, clear-cut chances

“But we don’t score goals and our opponents don’t really create chances but they create one or two and they score goals. We have been having a problem in front of goals, the finishing has been very poor.”

Sekhukhune once again received a red card in a league match, their third red of the season.

This comes after Tresor Tshibwabwa was giving his marching orders after receiving a second yellow of the match. But Tembo believes the red card was a bit harsh for the DRC-born defender.

“He played very well and his anticipation of reading the game was very good.

“Though he got an early yellow card that also made it difficult for him to play his normal game I think he handled it very well up until he got a red card which I thought was a little bit harsh.”
