Tembo vows to help Mabasa to get his mojo back

Sekhukhune United head coach Kaitano Tembo has vowed to help Tshegofatso Mabasa to stay injury free and get his mojo back as the season progresses.

Mabasa found the back of the net during Babina Noko’s first match of the season in a 1-all draw against Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium.

He joined Babina Noko on a season-long loan from the Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates.

The 25-year-old frontman hasn’t been quite his best in the last term due to an injury but has provided a pivotal moment for his new side this season.

“Look, Tshego is a natural goalscorer. Unfortunately, his progress has been hampered by injuries,” Tembo told the media.

“But we are going to try to manage him with the rest of the squad in a different way to try to help him in terms of strength recovery and injury prevention so that he can be available most of the time.”

The former SuperSport United mentor has said that Mabasa can reach a higher level of performance as long as he keeps his eyes on the prize.

“I’m quite happy with the progress that we have made so far with him because he is also looking hungry. What I like about him is that he always has something to prove, so we need players with that kind of mindset,” added the 52-year-old coach.

“The first that he arrived, I told him that we have got a lot of top goalscorers in the team, but we need to be brothers and know each other better. I think with time; when they start gelling, we will start seeing a lot of goals and good football coming out of these guys.”

Mabaso has represented South Africa at the senior level, winning his first cap during a 2018 African Nations Championship qualifier with Zambia on 19 August 2017. He had previously featured for the South Africa under-23s.

The Limpopo-based outfit are currently fifth on the DStv Premiership log standings with four after two games.

Sekhukhune will lock horns with the new kid on the block Richards Bay in their next league encounter on Saturday, 13 August, at King Zwelithini Stadium. The kick-off is at 5:30pm.
