Tshabalala names JVW’s players that can hurt Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies head coach has named two JVW players who could cause upset for them when the two sides lock horns in the Hollywoodbets Super League clash this afternoon.
Banyana Ba Style will take a short trip to Wits Main Stadium as they look to consolidate their top spot at the expense of the Blue Diamonds. The kick-off is at 15:00.
‘Kappa’, as he is popularly known within football cycles, reckons JVW are a very “solid side” and pointed out their attacking threat, the brilliance of Banyana Banyana star Gabriela Salgado and the experience Nompumelelo Nyandeni, who became the first player to score 20 goals in the Super League history.
TSHABALALA’S WORRY…
“We are playing against a very solid side who have found a way to score goals throughout the season,” Tshabalala told Sundowns’ media.
“Apart from us, they are one of three teams to have scored 50 goals alongside the University of Johannesburg (UJ). They are very good at creating chances from different positions on the pitch.
“In Gabriela Salgado and Nompumelelo Nyandeni, they have players capable of hurting anyone. Nevertheless, we have our attacking threats, and we cannot wait to unleash them.”
However, Masandawana come into this game highly motivated having collected maximum points against Tsunami Queens in the midweek fixture, thanks to Melinda Kgadiete’s goal.
The victory against Tsunami saw the red-hot Brazilians open up a 13-point gap at the top after accumulating 64 points from 24 outings.
Sundowns are the high-scoring side in the women’s league with a whopping 93 goals and only conceded just 11 goals in the process.
The Chloorkop-based outfit boasts a massive goal difference of +82 in the game.
Meanwhile, JVW are placed third with 45 points, and have managed to find the back of the net on 62 occasions and conceded 21 goals.
A TOP-OF-THE-TABLE CLASH
“Games against JVW FC are big clashes and in the context of the season, we can consider this game as a top-of-the-table clash,” he added.
“However, we need to take points off the teams that are nurturing any hopes of plotting a challenge for the league title.
“We are aware of the threats they possess, but we are fearless and ready to battle for maximum points on Sunday.
The last time the two teams met, it ended in tears for JVW, who succumbed to a 4-2 drubbing. Andisiwe Mgcoyi, Zanele Nhlapho, Gabonnelwe Kekana, and Rhoda Mulaudzi registered their names on the scoresheet.
