Tshabalala names Sundowns players who improved the most

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies head coach Jerry Tshabalala has named the two players that upped their game throughout the 2022 Hollywoodbets Super League season.

‘Kappa’, as he is popularly known within football circles, credited the brilliance of striker Lelona Daweti and defender Khutso Pila.

Tshabalala was full of praise for the duo, citing how Daweti became one of the most versatile players in his squad and how Pila stood up whenever she was called to come into the field.

Daweti, 24, ended the 2022 Super League term with eight goals to help her side clinch the league title for the third time in a row.

TSHABALALA ON DAWETI AND PILA…

“I am happy with the way my players have excelled in our football philosophy and their maturity has been incredible,” Tshabalala told Sundowns’ media.

“We saw how Lelona Daweti dazzled in various positions and how the young Khutso Pila showed her class whenever she was called upon.

“These are just a few examples of how several players within the team have improved.”

TSHABALALA ON WINNING THE LEAGUE

The Banyana Ba Style mentor says they are “grateful” to have won the league, but they would have loved to retain the titles that they won last season.

However, he reckons that they cannot complain much because they still have something to be cheerful about.

“To be champions for three years in a row means we are doing the right things and we are always grateful to the Hollywoodbets Super League for the overall organization of the league,” he added.

“We plan to go back to the drawing board, evaluate ourselves and design ways to address issues that we encountered this season.”

He also sent a heartwarming message to the club’s hierarchy for the support shown to them after a long season.

“On behalf of my players and the technical team, I am very grateful to the Chairman of the Club for all the efforts and support he has given us,” said Tshabalala.

“We are also grateful to the management, staff and everyone associated with the Yellow Nation Family. We are immensely grateful.”
