Tuks snap up All-Stars goalie

After missing out on the promotion to the DStv Premiership, University of Pretoria began its preparation for the 2022/23 Motsepe Foundation Championship as the team looks to intensify their push for promotion to the top flight.

FARPost can confirm that Tuks have signed goalkeeper Kyle Peters from Cape Town All-Stars. Sinethemba Badela’s side has already lost a few key players ahead of the new campaign; Sergio Kammies, Azola Ntsabo, Brooklyn Poggenpoel, and Indiviwe Mdabuka, who joined PSL newbies Richards Bay United are players who have since left the club.

Peters played a significant role as All-Stars finished third in the GladAfrica Championship as it was previously known. The Cape Town-based side fell short in the promotion/relegation playoffs as the PSL outfit Swallows FC won the playoffs to maintain their status.

The 29-year-old shot-stopper made 29 appearances for Igugu leKapa in the second tier last season. Tlisane Motaung-coached team had the difficult task of regrouping after losing their talisman Wonderboy Makhubu to the ambitious Sekhukhune United.

Meanwhile, The Students’ head coach, Tlisane Motuang, has suggested they have learned a lot from last season and look to improve.

“We took a lot out of last season and gave it our all to try and gain promotion to the PSL. I must give credit to the players for the commitment they’ve shown throughout last season. We were faced with many difficult situations, but the players always showed good mental strength,” said the coach

Having finished the second high-scoring team with 40 goals in the last term, the University of Pretoria will be looking to build on that scoring form next season.
