There has been a venue change for three of Kaizer Chiefs’ home fixtures ahead of the second round of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.
As revealed by FARPost last week, it has now been officially confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs will host some of their fixtures in Polokwane.
Chiefs have struck a deal with the Polokwane Municipality that will see them utilise the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
This publication has gathered that the deal is for the next three years. The two parties have a similar deal they had in place just after the 2010 World Cup.
KAIZER CHIEFS LURED TO POLOKWANE
The Soweto giants hosted close to six matches per season between 2011 and 2014. The Municipality is yet to divulge how much it cost them to lure the most supported team in the country.
According to Polokwane Municipality Executive Mayor John Mpe, Swallows is another Premier Soccer League club that they are negotiating with to host their matches at the 45 000 capacity stadium.
“We can tell you now, Kaizer Chiefs will be playing in Polokwane some of their games from January next year,” Mpe told FARPost last week.
“In principle, we have agreed. We will sign a contract with Kaizer Chiefs, but we will make the proper announcement alongside Kaizer Chiefs. We will be with Chiefs in the coming few days,” he revealed.
Now, according to the updated fixture list on the PSL website, Chiefs will host three of their last nine remaining league fixtures in Limpopo.
THE FIXTURES
They will start with a clash against Royal AM on Sunday, 29 January. The second encounter at the 2010 FIFA World Cup venue will be against Golden Arrows on Sunday, 19 February.
The last fixture will be the Soweto derby against Swallows on Tuesday, 2 May. All the other Amakhosi DStv Premiership fixtures will be played at the FNB Stadium.
This includes the mouthwatering clashes against Mamelodi Sundowns on 21 January and the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates on 25 February.
