Vilakazi reveals Arrows target after big win
Golden Arrows coach Vusi Vilakazi has outlined their target for the 2022/23 season after recording their biggest win in the league in over a decade.
The KwaZulu-Natal side scored four unanswered goals against Swallows FC on Saturday at Princess Magogo Stadium in a DStv Premiership encounter.
Abafana Besithende produced one of the best performances in months.
They dominated the Dube birds, with Pule Mmodi and Nduduzo Sibiya being among the stars of the show.
Vilakazi was left impressed by his troops in the Swallows game.
The victory saw Arrows jump from the relegation zone to fifth place on the log standings.
VILAKAZI’s THOUGHTS
“I enjoyed the game,” Vilakazi told the media in KwaMashu.
“What I highlighted in the team talk is that there’s a very thin line between teams who are sitting at the bottom and those who are on top.
“Now we are in position five.
“It shows that once you win one or two games or lose, the position change. That makes it difficult to predict who is going to win the league or get relegated.”
Arrows did not start the new season on a good note and coach Vilakazi, in the admission of that, revealed the club’s target this campaign.
However, the coach stated that they were not given a mandate.
“We not putting ourselves under pressure and our only focus is on the promise we made as players,” he said.
“Arrows did not get any mandate and promised ourselves that we will group our games in five circles.
“We want to achieve ten points in each, our first one, we failed dismally.
“Arrows only achieved five points.
“And in our second one, we won the first one against Chippa United and lost to [Mamelodi] Sundowns.
“As we won today, we need to repay what we’ve been missing in our first two games of the season.”
The Lamontville outfit will go to the FIFA break in high spirit.
But that may not be ideal as many teams would want to face their next opponent while still hot.
Their next game will be against Cape Town City on the 4th of October.
