“We can’t afford to get a third defeat,” says Sammy Seabi

Sekhukhune United midfielder Sammy Seabi says that his side cannot afford to lose another game if they really want to turn their fortunes.

Babina Noko has already suffered two losses in a row at the expense of Swallows FC and Royal Am with the same scoreline of 2-1.

The experienced midfielder recently signed a year-long loan deal with the Limpopo club after spending the last term at Chippa United also on loan. He made 22 appearances for the Chilli Boys and found the back of the net on two occasions to help the side survive the chop.

Sekhukhune will take on Cape Town City in the DStv Premiership encounter this evening at Athlone Stadium. The kick-off is at 19:30.

When speaking in the pre-match interview with the club’s media department ahead of tonight’s match, the 27-year-old footballer said that his side cannot afford to continue with their poor run in the top flight.

“We have been preparing even though we didn’t have enough time to prepare as we only had two days to recover,” said Seabi.

“So, we know what is at stake and what to do as a team to get fruitful results. We can’t afford to get a third defeat. We need to bounce back stronger and get something out of today’s game.”

As the club head coach Kaitano Tembo looked to bolster his midfield options, he stated that he had robbed in someone of Seabi’s calibre to stabilise his midfield.

“We were missing a little bit of depth in the midfield because we have had to play someone like Motsepe in the midfield and centre back, so we were lacking a little bit in terms of depth in the midfield,” Tembo told journalists in Polokwane a fortnight ago.

“So that’s what we have brought him (Sammy Seabi) for. He is a different player, so we just need to treat him that way. We know that he will be able to play a role in the team in terms of how we want to play.”
