What Abubeker Nasir said about Kermit Erasmus following Pirates move

Mamelodi Sundowns forward Abubeker Nasir has paid glowing tribute to Orlando Pirates’ new signing Kermit Erasmus following his reunion with the Soweto giants.

Erasmus this week bid his farewell to Sundowns, saying he will remember the club’s family atmosphere.

Erasmus said this in his farewell message to his former teammates at Sundowns following his return to Pirates.

“The family is what makes this club, humility, respect and humbleness. To the coaches ‘thank you’ for having worked with you. To my teammates, I’m going to miss you,” he said.

PIRATES REUNION

The 32-year-old completed his reunion with the Buccaneers on Friday after signing a two-year contract.

The former Bafana Bafana international added that he would miss his Sundowns teammates.

“To the @Masandawana, the chairman and the Motsepe family, thank you for the great 2 years I spent at an amazing football club,” Erasmus said.

In reaction, Sundowns’ Ethiopian forward, Nasir, described the 32-year-old forward as a consummate professional.

“What a professional and friendly guy! All the very best for your new adventure. Good luck to you with lots of love, boys,” Nasir said.

SUNDOWNS STATEMENT

Sundowns have since released a statement that they reached a mutual agreement with Erasmus to release him from his contract.

The Tshwane outfit says Erasmus had a contract running up to next May, but they felt releasing him was in his best interest.

“The enterprising striker’s contract was due to end in May, and both parties have agreed on an early termination to allow Kermit to get more game time elsewhere,” Sundowns statement reads.

“In the two years that Kermit has been with Mamelodi Sundowns, the talented player has displayed professionalism and was always on hand to share his knowledge – and -experience with his teammates.”

Erasmus played for the Buccaneers from 2013 to 2015 after signing from SuperSport United.

He then embarked on an adventure in Europe, with Rennes FC in the French Ligue 1 being his first destination in the year 2016.

Rennes dispatched Erasmus to Lens for a loan spell for the better part of his two-year contract that run its course in the year 2018.

The forward then moved to Portugal before completing the circle back to Cape Town City then Sundowns in 2020.
