What McCarthy told Klate after Chippa sacking

Manchester United striker’s coach Benni McCarthy has sent Daine Klate words of encouragement after the young coach was abruptly fired by Chippa United.

Klate was appointed as Chippa coach at the beginning of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season to replace Kurt Lentjies, who was shown the exit door despite helping the club survive relegation.

The former SuperSport United winger is the 34th coach to go through the revolving door at the Gqeberha-based side since 2012, and McCarthy has described the sacking of Klate as a ‘shame’.

“What a shame on Daine Klate; I know football is a result-driven sport, but when you don’t give a coach time to change the team’s fortune, what chance is there for anyone? Asked McCarthy.

“You should be proud of what you have done so early in your coaching career. Biggest things await you, my broertjie,” the former AmaZulu coach commented on Instagram.

The duo played together at the formidable Orlando Pirates team that won back-to-back trebles during the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons.

With the Chilli Boys chairman Chippa Mpengesi known to be trigger happy with coaches at the club when results are not forthcoming, Mpengesi previously told the media he will give 37-year-old mentor enough chance to succeed at the club.

“We are going give Klate enough chance to build his team, he has all my support. Klate achieved a lot as a player so we trying to make sure he becomes successful as a coach as well,” the chairman told the media.

Morgan Mammila is set to take over the coaching role at Chippa on an interim basis. Mammila’s first task is against the high-flying AmaZulu in the DStv Premiership on Saturday at Moses Mabhida stadium.
