What Tembo expects from new signing Sammy Seabi

Sekhukhune United are set to officially announce the signing of midfielder Sammy Seabi this week on a season-long loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.

FARPost revealed last week that Seabi, who recently signed a three-year extension at Downs, will spend the 2022/23 season at the Limpopo-based club.

Seabi joins Sekhukhune from another loan spell at Chippa United. On Saturday, the 27-year-old travelled with the team for their DStv Premiership draw against Mamelodi Sundowns at Peter Mokaba Stadium.

“He has travelled with us, he is part of the team, and I think the club will announce at the right time,” Tembo told journalists in Polokwane.

“He is not replacing anyone. It’s something that we are just missing at the moment. We are just missing a little bit of depth in the midfield because we have had to play someone like Motsepe in the midfield and centre back, so we are lacking a little bit in terms of depth in the midfield.

“So that’s what we have brought him (Sammy Seabi) for. He is a different player, so we just need to treat him that way. We know that he will be able to play a role in the team in terms of how we want to play,” said Tembo.

Seabi has struggled to break into the Sundowns match-day squad since his move from Polokwane City back in 2019. He has spent the last two seasons on loan at Swallows and Chippa.

He has only featured five times for Masandawana since the move. Before that, Seabi was a key member of the Polokwane City team during their stay in the DStv Premiership.

He featured regularly under coaches such as Kosta Papic and Bernard Molekwa. He attracted interest from big clubs such as Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, with the latter winning his signature.
