Why Bafana needs to win Mozambique, Angola clashes
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has revealed why it is essential to win against Mozambique and Angola as they host the two in Mbombela, writes Tlotlisang Mollo.
Broos is going all out for wins in the next two international friendly matches as he looks to build on the team’s confidence ahead of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
Bafana host Mozambique on Thursday night [20h30] before taking on Angola on Sunday [14h30] at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.
BROOS WANTS TO TAKE BAFANA TO AFCON
The Belgian uses the two clashes to prepare for the 2023 AFCON campaign. He has made it clear he wants to guide Bafana to the continental showpiece set to be hosted in Cameroon.
“There are important games in March, so those two games [friendly games against Mozambique and Angola] are also important.
They are not friendly games, but to me, they are not. There are games that have to be prepared for like any other game,” he told the media on Wednesday.
The mentality for Broos, heading into the games against Mozambique and Angola, is to win by all means.
By winning the two games, Broos believes that this will build up the confidence of the players, leading up to the 2023 AFCON Qualifier games next year.
DEVELOP A WINNING MENTALITY
“We would like to win two times because if we win two times, the confidence remains.
“It is very important that we have that confidence for the game of Sierra Leone.
“We would like to remain it, it is very important with two wins, and that gives us the boost again for the games in March.”
However, he will have to do without several players featured in the September preparatory matches.
Nkosinathi Sibisi, Innocent Maela; Sphephelo Sithole; Mihlali Manyambela; Lyle Foster; Terrence Mashego; and Thibang Phete are all ruled out through injury.
