Why Farai Madhanhanga flopped at Bidvest Wits
Zimbabwean defender Farai Madhanhanga has revealed the main reason why he did not live up to his stay at Bidvest Wits.
The former Marumo Gallants left-back spent a year at Wits under Gavin Hunt without playing a single competitive match.
He arrived in January 2020 amid so much expectations following impressive performances with four-time Zimbabwean champions FC Platinum.
The Harare-born utility player helped FC Platinum win two of their four titles and was also voted among the season’s best 11 after the 2018 season.
But he dismally failed to step up to the plate after donning the navy-blue jersey of the now-defunct Bidvest Wits.
WHY THE PLAYER FAILED AT WITS
“It was unfortunate. I tried my best, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be. I felt at home, but I remained on the sidelines,” Madhanhanga told FARPost.
“Even coach [Gavin Hunt] saw that I put in my best effort but perhaps it wasn’t enough to get a regular team appearance.
“Perhaps I didn’t fully adapt to the team’s philosophy and demands at the end; I wasn’t feeling at home anymore. That contributed a lot. However, when we changed clubs, it was better.
“I got the chance to play in the league and also in the Confederation Cup. It was delightful,”
Following Bidvest Wits’ decision to sell their franchise, Madhanhanga surfaced at Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandika [TTM], where he enjoyed reasonable game time.
And he was part of the club’s history-making team, which won the Nedbank Cup in 2021 along with compatriot Washington Arubi.
“That’s a refreshing memory. We did well, and I managed to record something for myself as an individual.
“We all want to be winners no matter how hard it starts. Right now, I’m focusing on my game and the team [Ngezi Platinum Stars].
“Hopefully, we can be able to win big next season going forward. That’s what we are working towards.”
The 27-year-old has since joined ambitious Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side Ngezi Platinum Stars.
And he deservedly received the best signing of the year award as they ended the year in fourth position.
